Dan Howe is the Downtown Development Manager of Franklin, Virginia. He manages all aspects of the Downtown Franklin Association (DFA).
Thirty Years of a Home in Franklin
Dan has been a resident of Franklin for over 30 years. Dan is a graduate from North Carolina University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Textile Technology in addition to time at Paul D. Camp Community College.
Leading Others for Over Forty Years
Dan has over 40 years of strong leadership, enjoys working with people, and has been with the DFA since May 2009. His ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals of all levels allows representing the community to be a natural motion for Dan.
With a mission to enhance appreciation of Downtown Franklin and foster an understanding of the Main Street process, Dan develops and conducts ongoing public awareness and education programs. As the Development Manager, Dan takes presentations to City Officials, Boards, Committees, and Commissions, as well as advising the community organizations on DFA and Main Street activities. Dan also oversees programs based on the Main Street approach: Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotions, and Organization.

As an experienced team player, Dan brings enthusiasm and energy into group efforts. Dan serves as the Executive Director for the Downtown Franklin Association Board of Directors, making him a member ex officio as well as serves on the Board of Directors for the Franklin-Southampton Area Chamber of Commerce and Franklin Business Center. He also serves on the Franklin City Public Schools Career and Technical Education Advisory Board.
Dan is a member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Franklin and currently is a member of Virginia Main Street and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He also participates in the Intern/student mentor program with Career Services through the Hampton Roads Workforce Council.
Ann works alongside Dan Howe, and handles all of the administrative needs for Downtown Franklin Association (DFA).
A Local to Franklin
Ann was born in Suffolk, Virginia but as a young child in the 1960’s, she resided in Franklin, VA. Her passion for farmers’ markets is how she reached the opportunity to work with DFA.
A Strong Administrative Background
Ann brings with her over 25 years of corporate and small business experience in the administrative field. Companies including Duke Energy, FGMK, both located in Chicago as well as Grady-White Boats and United Propane Gas, both in Greenville, NC. Her adaptability, organizational skills, dependability, people and customer service skills, dedication and her work ethic are her best attributes. Ann is a team player and is always ready for a challenge.
Passion and Dedication
In 2016, Ann became involved with Franklin’s Market on Main as a vendor. Her love for gardening and do it yourself projects made for a good time at the markets, and allowed her passion to expand. It was 2017 when Ann began volunteer work with the Downtown Franklin Association and was later hired as an Office Manager.
