(Courtland, VA) – On Saturday, October 18, 2014, beginning at 8 a.m., an Inaugural 5K Run/Walk will be held in the town of Courtland, VA. The goal is to have a minimum of 150 run/walk participants.
Race Director and High School Football Coach Willie Gillus, said, “We want to raise as much as we can to support athletics in the school system. And I thought a race would be a good way to involve and engage the community to meet our fundraising goal. So I recommended the idea to Principal Atkinson as well as the Southampton County School Board, and I am thrilled that they were so receptive to the concept. This is a first for us and we’re excited to put on this event. We have a great steering committee comprised of local runners, coaches, current and former educators, and others. All of us are working together to ensure this event is second to none.”
