It was a wonderfully brisk spring morning in Downtown Franklin. The grassy area surrounding Barrett’s Landing gazebo was hopping with activity Saturday morning as the Downtown Franklin Association held their 2016 annual Easter Egg Hunt.
A special thank you goes out to the DFA President, Bev Meyers, Sister Seegmiller and Sister Knapp for helping the Easter Bunny stuff the eggs with candies and goodies. Also, special appreciation to the Franklin Dairy Queen for providing ice cream coupons in many of the eggs, Walgreens for providing candy and plastic eggs to stuff the candy inside, Bronco Federal Credit Union & Southampton Memorial Hospital for helping sponsor the candy and goodies that went into the plastic eggs and Real Country 101.7 Radio for helping promote and advertise the event through their sponsorship.
As the clock struck 11:00 AM, the youngest group of children (age 2 to 4) was given the goahead to begin the search for the coveted candy. Each time the signal was sounded to start, chaos ensued. Each age group hunted for the special golden and bronze eggs filled with golden coins while they gathered the colorful eggs full of bounty. Winner of the golden egg in the 2 to 4 age group was Makly Duck. They were followed by the 5 to 7 year olds, where Savanah Clawso found the golden egg, and Lia Mae Serrano got the bronze. Lastly the 8 to 10 year olds were turned loose, and Dominic Robinson found the golden egg, and Eli Brumme spotted the bronze. Special guest of honor at the event was the Easter Bunny (AKA Jack Norvell). When he arrived, he waswelcomed by his many friends. Downtown Franklin board members, Staff and Volunteers on hand for the festivities were Beverly Myers, DFA Board President; Jim Wright, DFA promotions committee; Sandy Holloman, DFA Office Manager, Shutun Goodman (AKA Puff), DFA Intern, Russell Jackson, DFA volunteer, and Jack Norvell (Easter Bunny in disguise).
By 11:15 AM, the mad dash for eggs gave way to posing for keepsake photos with the Easter Bunny. Dan Howe, Franklin Main Street Manager, expressed his thanks to all who helped make the event possible, volunteers, sponsors, and participants!
