The Downtown Franklin Association, Inc. (DFA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation whose Mission is “to ensure the long-term viability of the downtown district as a cultural, civic, historical and commercial center through public and private commitments.”

Virginia Main Street

The City of Franklin has been a Virginia Main Street community since 1985 with the DFA currently administering that effort.

Under the Main Street Approach®, communities develop individual strategies, working in each of these four key, interconnected areas:

Virginia Main Street - Building Vitality Downtown!Design - Enhancing the unique visual quality of downtown by addressing all design elements to create an appealing environment.
Promotion – Creating and marketing a positive image based on the unique attributes of the downtown district.
Economic Restructuring – Strengthening downtown’s existing economic assets and fulfilling its broadest market potential.
Organization – Establishing consensus and cooperation by building effective partnerships among all downtown stakeholders.

There are 21 Virginia Main Street communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
